Don't get me wrong on this, I really do enjoy watching beauty gurus on Youtube or reading rave reviews of their Holy Grail products on their beauty blogs. But sometimes I feel "cheated" by their reviews...
It seems like every month or so, beauty gurus would post their monthly favourite products or their "new found" Holy Grail items. I mean, if they were to really love or call a particular product their Holy Grail, wouldn't they want to stick with the product for a longer period of time? At least longer than a month.
After reading their rave reviews, viewers *such as myself :p* will go running to purchase those items, only to find out later in the next month, a new favourite has emerged! And we have barely even finished using that product.
And that's where the clutter begins. Bottles of pre-loved HG products.
I think these days, the words HG, love, favourite, best, must haves, can't-live-without...etc, are used too loosely. These words no longer carry weight to their actual meaning.
Does any one else feel the same way about this? Or am I the only one? Haha...
I totally feel the same way! Especially in the beginning, when I was more noob, I'd think, "they know what they're talking about" (since I've tried so little products) but now I usually take it with a grain of salt when they claim they've found a new HG product. The funny thing is that I rarely will say something is an HG product--just simply a product that I like for particular reasons but I wouldn't usually call it HG just because almost all products have some kind of faulty attribute (like price for example).
ReplyDeleteHahahha anyway sorry to get sooo sidetracked, but YES I do know what you mean!!! XD
hey~ I love your new template.
ReplyDeletebut anyways~ yup, you're really right. I just like to watch the new monthly fav. videos but i really don't take them seriously. hahaha :P Heck, if i did, i would be bankrupt. hehehe :)
So true. I guess they think that they need to talk/rave about something new every month or so :D .
ReplyDeleteLove the new look here! :)
♥xx♥
Hi Priscilla - I complete agree with you! That's why I don't often buy anything I see on YT haha, unless I happen to be looking for a specific type of product. And only if I can get a sample of it at Sephora beforehand. I don't think anything is really HG - everything fails in one way or another. Usually we're only impressed with a product for a short time, and then we lose our excitement for it, lol~ *sigh* so fickle~
ReplyDeleteTo be honest... I don't get it either. I'm the type of person who buys the second, third and fourth bottle of Holy Grail product, because since it got the name, it is really really good.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the "gurus" just get excited to easily, or just like new stuff ;)
It's so true what u mentioned above. I guess we just need more self-control!
ReplyDeleteYour new blog template is lovely~ ^^
I feel the same way about myself, lol! Well, I'm not one to have HGs, really, because I like to try new things, and it's not because I want to toy with my readers, lol. I give raves about products but I'm reserved in calling something my HG. I never really understood the meaning behind HG anyway, I guess I joined the beauty scene too late.
ReplyDelete@Tammy: Haha! So I'm not alone in feeling this way :X
ReplyDelete@Popcorn: Thanks pops! Long time no see!!! Yes!! I would be broke too, keeping up with the latest products!
@Cynthia: Thanks!! It's one of those templates off blogger. Haha, I'm hopeless at HTML.
@Miss Wiggle: Yes!!! I'm super fickle too :D
@Shilka: Yup, if I love a particular product, I would buy it over again for years!
@Jessy: Thanks Jessy! Nice to see your comment! How have you been! :) Hope you're well! Sadly, I have little or no self control when I go shopping :x
@Fuz: OOps! A guru reading this?! Hahaha! I love to try new things too :D I think there's nothing wrong with that. Not that you're toying with your readers or anything...but you have great blogging skills with an X factor :p you're an enabler XD
I trust very few beauty bloggers on the blogosphere otherwise I would have been bankrupt by now ;)
ReplyDeletei do have the same sentiments with you, its hard to trust what the bloggers defined as HG now, when they have a new HG every week.
ReplyDeleteJust came across your blog and saw this post! I couldn't agree more with you!!! I used to watch alot of these videos and now that YT is inaccessible on my laptop for some reasons, it saves me quite some bucks.
ReplyDeleteI used to enjoy watching Michelle Phan, Elle & Blair Fowler's videos but they are getting too main stream and you don't even know how good these "HG products" are.
