The pain of being fair skinned is that, every single flaw shows up really obvious on my face!
I used to battle with acne. Now, with the help of facials every 3 weeks, with extractions done on my clogged pores, I rarely get pimples. But I'm left with those pesky red scars! Especially on my cheeks :(
Everyday, I pat on Covermark's concealer to cover up my scars :( I seriously can't live without concealer. *I feel that people are staring at my scars!*Next I dust on Paul & Joe's Loose Powder to set the concealer. I don't use any foundation. Not that I have even skin tone, but I don't like the feeling of thick makeup on my face.
But wouldn't having flawless skin be better? Recently, I've been "investing" more on skincare rather than cosmetics. In my opinion, I would rather have healthy skin, than to mask it with makeup. Here's one product which I would recommend if you have scars on your face.
Niks Glycol 12- Glycolic Acid 12% pH 3.5
It really helps lighten the scars on my face!
I used to over exfoliate my skin, causing it to be sensitive and raw! But now, I only exfoliate my skin once a week, and apply glycolic acid on the days which I don't exfoliate.
12% glycolic acid is effective at exfoliating dead cell build-up in clogged pores and improving skin tone and scars. Herbal extracts in this product minimize irritation.
If you have never used glycolic acid before, I would suggest that you start out slow. For the first two weeks, rinse off after applying the gel after 10-20 minutes. After your skin has gotten used to the acidity, do not rinse off. It can be applied once or twice a day, but remember to use a good sunscreen! Or else the scars would darken instead!
Another product I would recommend is Silkwhitia Whitening and Moisturising Mask.

Not only whitens, but plumps the skin too! This product is available on Sasa.com. Although it states it's not suitable to be used on sensitive skins, I find it a gentle product. I usually leave my mask on for longer that the period stated on the box. I only take it off after 45 minutes. Results are visible after the first application!!
Do you have any other products to recommend to lighten scars?? :)
ya, being fair skin makes every tiny little imperfection that much more noticeable =( But thanks for sharing your thoughts on minimizing facial scars!
ReplyDeletewooooo......masks! I have a pretty big scar on my forehead...I crashed into the pointy part of the wall and had to get 6 stitches. So i think this will really help me lighten it. Thanks
ReplyDeleteGreat review and info, now I'm really interested in trying the Niks Glycol. I wonder if I can get it here in the US?
ReplyDeleteI used to suffer from moderately-severe acne and I would wear foundation and concealer everyday to cover it all up. But I visited the derm and she prescribed tretinoin for my face. I haven't gotten much acne since I started using it a year ago, but I still use it because it helps with scarring/post-acne marks. I'm also using the paul & joe whitening serum, which really lightened up my scars. The Murad Pomegranate exfoliating mask is also good with brightening my complexion. Nowadays, the marks aren't as noticeable and I don't wear foundation or concealer unless I have a special occasion to attend. It took awhile for me to be comfortable to do that though.
ReplyDelete@ Stacieee: You have very nice skin! *envious* :)
ReplyDelete@Popcorn: Ouch, that must have hurt! The scar left behind from stitches are different from the red marks we get from acne. It depends on how the doctor stitches up the wound. If the skin is nicely stitched back and the edges of the skin are closed together, chances are scarring are less. You could try rubbing some Vit E on your scar :)
@Diane: I don't think they have a shop in the US. But you can purchase from their website.

:)
@Tiptoe21: I've tried tretinoin too. But its really harsh on my skin :( made my skin flake. I tried Retin-a too. It caused a chemical burn on my skin :( I would pile on my foundation too! But the derm told me it would only aggravate the problem. She adviced me just to use loose/ pressed powder. I was really feeling self conscious at that period of time. But now that my skin is better, less sensitive and "burnt", I use concealer and loose powder.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us! :)The Murad Pomegranate exfoliating mask sounds good! Might drop by Sephora to take a look at it!
oh i forgot to say thanks for sharing the products that you use. I was actually contemplating about getting the Silkwhitia sheet mask and you convinced me =D
ReplyDeleteI would recommend the Silkwhitia whitening essence mask & the one above :)
ReplyDeleteThere are several natural remedies you can do at home. You can apply cucumber juice to scars and leave for 15 minutes and wash the face with cold water. You can also apply honey 2-3 times a day. It will definitely give a natural glow to the skin and will effectively remove scars. For wrinkle problems, you can use organic eye wrinkle creams to remove that ugly signs of aging.
