Review: Kimage School of Hairdressing

Pic taken from: http://www.kimage.com.sg/school/facility.asp

This is a review on the services provided by Kimage School of Hairdressing... it was my first experience with them and I would say, it would be my last too. This place was recommended by a local magazine for their cheap services.

All services are done by trainees... means they are hairstyling students. So I wouldn't be expecting much.

The service I tried today was a simple hair treatment. I thought nothing could go wrong. But I was sooo sooo wrong :(

My Rating

I called up on Tuesday to make an appointment for Friday evening. Upon answering my call, the lady on the line sounded as if she was in a hurry to end my call. She hastily asked for my name, which service I would like to have and the time. The call was over in less than 30 seconds. Talk about being "efficient". She wasn't polite either.

Receptionist: 2/5

I was led to my seat and it took 10 minutes to get a student to attend to me. She was a 40-ish lady... with very strong fingers. OMG. This was the first time I felt like I was getting a face lift together with a hair wash! I had to clench my jaw as she lathered the shampoo in. She was being so rough with my hair :( after 10 mintues of intense lathering, she asked in typical Singlish: "Not pain ah?" I was like... YES IT IS! After which she was gentle for like 5 mintues or so... then she led me to have the shampoo rinsed out. I guess afew strands of hair didn't make it through her tugging. :(

Hair wash:1/5

I've tried the products used in this treatment before. It is by Matrix, Biolage. Quite a low-end salon line in my opinion. The treatment went OK, just that she wasn't too careful during application of the ampoule. She dripped some on my satin skirt :( and left strands of hair (with treatment on) touching my face. Argh! And what is a treatment without the steaming part?? She just left the treatment on and rinsed it off within 20 minutes. I could have done that at home too!

Treatment: 2/5

The most horrible part of the whole experience. She really had no idea how to blow curls in my hair. Seriously, I think many Youtube Gurus could have done a much better job than her even without having to attend hairstyling school. Firstly, she had done a center parting instead of my usual side parting. Next, she tugged so hard at my hair while trying to blow the curls in :( She also used the wrong brush, making my curls really fluffy. I looked like a character from The Lion King. Lastly, she gave up in the end (it was near closing time), leaving my hair slightly damp when I left the salon. It was really disappointing.

Blow: 1/5

Verdict:

All in all, it was a really bad experience and I wasted 2 hours of my time there. I left the place with my scalp feeling tender. Even though it was $23 (after 10% discount) for a treatment, I would still pay the full amount to get it done at a more relaxing salon and in half the time.

I went home to wash out her blowing and put on some leave in treatment on my poor tortured hair.
